Includes fake 3d effect for the soil (using a derivative component) as well as drop shadows for the grass blades.

There's a moss-like pattern at the bottom in the filter editor that didn't make it in to this version. I'm not satisfied with it just yet, but I left it there just for fun.

April 5, 2013
"Local" means that the vortecies rotate the input image about each vortex's center, not about the image's center. In other words, this filter makes lots of swirls everywhere!

I created two types of vortex patterns: One using bombers and another using worley (cell) noise. Using these as examples, you can edit the filter to make your own patterns.

--This lucky find is based on a technique for generating the 2-dimensional gradient of an elevation map. I include both my method and Sphinx's (another FF user). Open the filter editor to see the annotated steps, as well as a depiction of the gradient vector field. If this math-related information does not interest you and you were drawn to this filter purely by the salivating image of peanut butter, please ignore this paragraph. Thank you.--

[Snippet] 3D Smudge

I made this snippet to help other Filter Forge users learn how to do 3-dimensional effects via "smudging".
---
If you set "density" = 100, you can mimic solid 3d shapes, be they isometric, in perspective, or spherical. Lower densities result in fuzziness, which can be used for stuff like light rays, shadows, and radial blurs.

July 16, 2012
Using just a "blend" (difference mode) and a "treshold", you can pick a single pigment, find other colors that look like that pigment in your image, and replace those colors with the pigment, all at once.

I'm guessing you can do this all in photoshop, but filter authors may try incorporating this simple technique into more complex filters.

K (black) is simply the overall brightness. In other words, reflection is the opposite of absoption. The CMYK system is sometimes used when pigments are layered together, as by your ink printer.

This snippet can extract C, M, Y, and K, and it can also add or subtract the "pigments". More creative alterations are an easy step from here.

Based on ThreeDee's recomendations, I pulled out an improved version out of the vortex of time. This time, the hourglass has wooden caps, two wodden support poles (thanks to Kochubey's "Wood"), dispersed sand near the poles, and an optional vortex background (thanks to Uberzev's "Radial Blur v4.1"). Also includes glass refraction. Enjoy!

Take my way take, that's the highway that's the best.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Well it winds from Chicago to LA
More than two-thousand miles all the way.
Get your kicks on Route sixty-six.

Well it goes through St. Louie, Joplin, Missouri
Oklahoma City looks so, so pretty.
You'll see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Winona,
Kingsman, Barstow, San Bernardino.

Won't you get hip to this timely tip
And take that California trip.
Get your kicks on route sixty-six.

***A road texture complete with the lines, one/two-lanes each way, paint-job quality, and erosion fx***

Note: To get the dashed lines even, divide 100 by the repeat #, and plug that in for the offset
