You can adjust this filter to yeild results similar to my other plaster filter, but if the rot is not needed you are better off using the less complex filter since it's likely quicker.

Large portions are borrowed from Nutsy and his fantastic plaster filter.

Enjoy!

Trusswome!

August 25, 2008, Editor's Pick
Generates realistic rusty girders and trusses both with an without alpha transparency. This filter includes 6 different quality settings:
1: does the fastest black and white preview which is ideal for laying out your render
2: adds a simple metal texture which is passable for projects not requring a lot of realisim
3: adds an additional layer of rust and stains, gracefully borrowed from the excellent angelboii's filters.
4: adds a slight bumpiness to the edges of the truss steel
5: adds some slight reflection
6: adds refraction of the grunge along the angles of the various bars and is the slowest but nicest looking.
There are a lot of controls, but they are simple and randomize well. Keep smooth low for better results.
To adjust which bars stack on or underneath each other adjust the height sliders. Bars with the same height adjustment will blend into eachother. To hide any of the various features, simply set the height as zero, this will make that feature invisible.

A: ...Why not?

A remake of Sjeiti's much more useful Lifesaver Filter, search for his if you actually need a texture. Thanks Sjeiti!

March 17, 2009
This gives a bit more control over my other gunbarrel filter, but it includes a new feature useful for game artists. You can render this texture in two parts the "shiny lines" with an alpha transparency and the underlying base metal. When you put the texture on a rotating shaft, keep the shiny stationary and scroll the metal horizontally. Instant rotating shaft!

Feel free to use it in your own filters. Crediting is cool, but I'm not gonna freak out if you forget- It's hard to remember sometimes where something came from.

Yet another metal filter.

ENJOY! - Don't complain about lack of controls, you got 20,000 variations to play with, I'm sure there's something in there that's good. Don't forget to fiddle with lighting.

Sure, it's a bit trivial and could be accomplished in photoshop with a simple control+shift+u but this gives you a bit of control over the b/w effect.

Doric Column

March 16, 2009
Filter lets you create simple doric columns. The "3d" mode produces a neat looking 3d preview but is limited in controls, 2d mode is recommended for any sort of texture application, it has much more control. You'll need to render 3 maps if you want a tall column (top, middle, and bottom) because a tall skinny imagesize will not work properly. If you are unhappy with the marble selections you can enable image mode and supply your own seamless image to "Column-ize". The controls are pretty straightforward, I recommend you use "fast mode" to tweak the settings then switch to one of the other types for the beauty shot.

Credit for the "Non fast" marble types goes to: Genie, davidhyno, Artress Design, Miavir and ScaryKitty

MeshGranite

March 2, 2009
A useful wire mesh backed by a useless granite texture. The mesh between the alpha and the normal map is a bit wonky but as long as you don't care a whole lot about precision, this should work fine for simple 2d projects (plus it has a cool psudo-reflective look to the edges this way).

Interesting tidbit: This actually started from a failed attempt to create a hexagon. I threw together some gradient lines in an attempt to get the right angles and noticed it make some interesting patterns, tossed an on-the-spot granite and voila.

Wet Rock toggles reflectivity making the texture appear shiny and reflective, as if the rock were wet. If you increase stretch and have large undesired dark lines, toy with the variation until you find something you like. Rendertime is fairly quick and I hope you enjoy making some rocks!

If you need a single sphere (perhaps the even number of rows in "tiles" doesn't work for you) use this technique to get a working sphere. This technique was swiped from Sjeiti, all creative credits go to him, I just made the snippet because it took me forever to find this and it needed to be shared.

Turn Rotate off for snappier controls.

The current quick/slow thing is great for these rivets but the whole rotating business could conceiviably be used for any shape bolts.

April 21, 2008
Jet Lag is a filter designed to mimic the riveted aluminum surfaces of aircraft wings and sidings. Work from top to bottom on the controls and activate the "preview mode" to quickly size the rivets as desired. Once you have the rivets sized properly, just uncheck preview mode and render-away!

As usual, maxing out the sliders can remove the rivets completely or make the entire surface riveted, check out the presets for examples how.

Arrange Grid

It took me quite a while to get it going. A word of warning, don't use the "FRAME" component to create your basic bolt shape, doing so will cause the "size" slider to break the filter.

Simple filter renders basically instantly. Enjoy!

Mind The Gap

April 15, 2008
Mind the gap!

This filter was created to mimic the classic yellow bumps you see in subway stations everywhere but actually works for some other textures as well. Take a look at the presets to get an idea of what this filter can do. Both the dots or Lines can be removed by maxing out specific sliders. I kept speed in mind when designing this filter and it's fairly snappy as a result. Enjoy!

Big props to Crapadilla I used a number of his techniques to get the pattern base going. The texture is fairly simple, but it renders quick and might be useful to someone somewhere. Enjoy and leave some comments or suggestions for improvement!

Texture Slider Choices include: Grainy Texture, Rocky Texture or Plain. Pattern Slider choices include: Classic Pattern, Columns, Steps or Orbs. This filter produces very nice renders very quickly so don't be afraid to give it a spin.

Hazard Zone

March 19, 2008
This filter lets you create all sorts of variations of grungy sci-fi walls. Flip and rotate the stripe pattern, control the color of the stripes grunge and metal and adjust the metal opening, there is a lot of control so be sure to experiment.

You can also create a purely hazard stripe or purely metal texture just by maxing out the "Metal: opening" control. If you plan on doing a lot of hazard stripe rendering though I recommend my other filter, it's about 3x quicker.

Atlantean Element

March 18, 2008
Travel miles underwater and discover the wonder and awe of the beauty and intricacy of Atlantian architecture. Toggle corossion if you want to clean things up a bit.

Note: CHOOSE SEAMLESS TILING FIRST. If you like what you get without seamless on, it will likely change a lot if you turn it on. If you're getting flat patterns and you want something a bit more complex try lowering the Patter Stretch value.

HUGE Props to Carl and his KG Filter, This is basically a heavily edited version of that.
